We have a family tradition handed down from my mother of giving each child a Christmas ornament in their stocking with their name and the year marked on it. I try to choose something that will spark a special memory, or symbolize something important that happened with that child that year. These will be placed with the family ornaments to be unpacked each year to decorate our tree. When the children are old enough to start their own family, they will have a "starter set" of Christmas ornaments for their own tree. Every year, I still love looking at the ornaments my mother chose for me.
